HSV Encephalitis

Findings:

Multiple MRI images demonstrate poorly defined signal abnormalities within both temporal lobes left greater than right with irregular enhancement of the left temporal lobe after gadolinium administration. There is slight mess effect with medial displacement of both hippocampal formations and mild deformity of the midbrain. No significant diffusion restriction. On the coronal T2 weighted images, the process also involves the inferior left frontal lobe, insula, and hypothalamus.
