C2 Fracture Dislocation with Spontaneous Reduction in MR

Findings:

Sagittal reconstructions from CT cervical spine demonstrate fracture dislocation of C2. There is marked posterior subluxation of both C1 lateral masses, with one side perched against the C2 body. The MR images demonstrate circle cord contusion at C2 with minimal spotty hemorrhagic change seen on the gradient echo sequence. The fracture dislocation spontaneously reduces during imaging as seen on the sagittal T2 fat saturated sequence.
