Closed Lipped Schizencephaly

Findings:
A closely apposed, gray matter lined cleft extends to the left lateral ventricle from the  left frontal cortex. Septum pellucidum is absent.

Differential Diagnosis:
closed lipped schizencephaly, gray matter heterotopia, hamartoma.

Discussion:
  -most commonly migrational anomaly occurring at approximately 6 weeks gestation.
  -other migrational anomalies: lissencephaly, polymicrogyria, pachygyria
  -infarct vs. developmental, TORCH
  -50% have septo-optic dysplasia
  -80% rule- bilateral, open, symmetric
