Posttraumatic ICA Dissection
Findings:
CCA arteriogram shows a smoothly tapered stenosis of
the internal carotid artery distal to its origin.
Differential Diagnosis:
dissection, atherosclerosis, less likely extrinsic compression.
Discussion:
Extracranial dissection may be the result of trauma or
neck manipulation. Underlying vessel abnormalities such as FMD, syphilis,
Marfan's and others may predispose to dissection.
