Ectopic Neurohypophysis
Findings:
A small focus of T1 hyperintensity is present in the
pituitary infundibulum.
Differential Diagnosis:
ectopic neurohypophysis, disturbed transport of releasing
hormones, lipoma, small Rathke's cleft cyst
Discussion:
T1 hyperintensity in the posterior pituitary gland is
thought to be related to neurosecretory vesicles. The descent of the posterior
pituitary may become arrested at any point from the hypothalamus through
the pituiatry stalk. Alternatively, the granules may accumulate at a site
of stalk transection.
