CIDP

Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)

Findings:

Sagittal T1 postcontrast MR images show uniformly thickened and enhancing nerve roots of the cauda equina. Axial T1 pre and postcontrast images demonstrate abnormal enhancement of the nerve roots.

Differential diagnosis:

CIDP, other inflammatorry neuropathy/neuritis, lymphoma, metastases, arachnoiditis

Discussion:

nCytoalbuminologic dissociation is characteristic (CSF protein >45 with cells<10)
nProgressive sensory deficit and motor weakness, areflexia, may improve or worsen
nChronic counterpart to Guillain Barre
nMost common in young adults and males
