liposarcoma

Thyroid Liposarcoma

Findings:

Multiple MR images demonstrate a well defined mass within the right thyroid lobe which demonstrates high T1 signal with some heterogenous areas of low signal. The heterogenous areas enhance after gadolinium administration, and other portions of the lesion show signal dropout with fat saturation.

Differential Diagnosis:

Liposarcoma, complicated lipoma, metastatic lesion from distant liposarcoma

Discussion:

Thyroid liposarcomas are extremely rare, with few reported cases. The imaging diagnosis is not difficult if you recognize the signal intensity of the lesion and its documented fat content.
