Thyroglossal Duct Cyst
Findings:
Axial neck CT images with contrast demonstrate a fluid density lesion at midline embedded within the strap muscles, displacing the adjacent strap muscles. The lesion is just below the level of the hyoid bone with a small suprahyoid extent into the pre-epiglottic fat.
Differential Diagnosis:
Thyroglossal duct cyst (by far most likely by location and characteristics), lymphangioma, necrotic lymph node, other duplication cyst much less likely.
Discussion:
nAlong tract from foramen cecum to thyroid, midline, within strap muscles
nUsually near level of hyoid bone (65% just below)
nSquamous epithelial lining, thyroid tissue uncommon
nMay be off midline if closer to thyroid
