Metastatic Disease, Small cell lung
Findings:
Multiple rounded and ovoid intraaxial enhancing lesions are present throughout both cerebral hemispheres, some demonstrating hemorrhagic change. However, there is no surrounding vasogenic edema or mass effect.
Discussion:
Metastases are typically thought of as lesions that incite significant vasogenic edema which may be marked even with small lesions. More mass effect and edema is typically expected when the lesions become hemorrhagic. This case is atypical due to the absence of these features. Small cell lung and prostate metastases may occasionally incite little surrounding reaction as in this case. It is unknown whether the patient was on steroids at the time of this study.
