Olivopontocerebellar Degeneration
Findings:
Multiple MR images demonstrate marked volume loss of the brainstem and cerebellum with little or no supratentorial atrophy. The pontine atrophy is asymmetric compared to the rest of the brainstem.
Discussion:
A neurodegenerative process should be considered first, since this atrophy is more extensive than would be expected for the more common causes of cerebellar atrophic changes such as alcohol/substance abuse and long term antiseizure therapy.
