Moya Moya Disease

Findings:

Reformatted MRA images demonstrate occlusive disease of the left M1 segment, bilateral anterior cerebral arteries, and right supraclinoid internal carotid. MRA flow signal within the right MCA is absent. A superimposed small recent parenchymal hematoma is present in the right posterior limb internal capsule. The hemorrhage within the internal capsule could be due to a hemorrhagic lacunar infarct. No other infarcts are included.

Discussion:

Extensive intracranial arterial occlusive change may be seen with Moya Moya Disease, severe atherosclerotic disease, marked vasculitis, or mulitple emboli. The presence of collaterals and few infarcts for the extent of disease indicates a long standing process such as Moya Moya.
