Laryngeal Cancer

Findings:

Axial contrast enhanced neck CT images demonstrate a poorly defined enhancing mass extending from the right vocal cord crossing midline and involving the subglottic region fairly symmetrically with mild to moderate narrowing of the subglottic airway. The neoplasm penetrates anteriorly into the strap muscles and is associated with thyroid cartilage sclerosis and destruction. No adenopathy is included.

Discussion:

For an irregular vocal cord mass, squamous cell carcinoma should be considered first. An unusual infectious/inflammatory process could appear similar, less likely. Despite the relatively small size of the lesion and lack of a dominant nodular mass, the involvement of adjacent structures makes this a T4 lesion.
