Olivopontocerebellar Degeneration
Findings:
severe atrophy of cerebellum and pons
Differential Diagnosis:
OPC degeneration, EtOH abuse, AIDS (OPC only one that
would be limited to CB and pons), Shy-Drager syndrome
Discussion:
clinical sx- ataxia, Parkinson-like symptoms
primary degeneration centers in pontine nuclei, associated
with pontine, cerebellar, brachium pontis atrophy. helpful sign: PD increased
signal in transverse pontine fibers
hereditary vs. sporadic
